Maryland Wedding Photography at Ceresville Mansion – Julie and Jon

August 26th, 2010

Ceremony and reception Location  : Ceresville Mansion, Frederick, MD

Wedding date : July 10, 2010

Julie and Jon (or Epstein, as the bride refers to him by his last name) met at my alma mater — the University of Maryland. He helped her fix her computer. She lost a bet with him that resulted in a dinner date. Many dates and IT sessions later, they were married on a not-too-humid Saturday evening at the Ceresville Mansion in Frederick. The rain that threatened the forecast all week came early, allowing their outdoor nuptials to go off as scheduled. Their day was filled with the kinds of personal touches that make me love my job: Julie honored the memory of her late mother with a purse fashioned out of fabric from her mother’s wedding dress and with a heart-shaped pendant holding her mother’s photograph pinned within the layers of her own wedding gown. Guests couldn’t help but laugh when she modified her wedding vows, ignoring the traditional wording offered by the cantor and saying instead, “I, Julie, take you, Epstein ….” And the best man had the crowd roaring with his toast, including when he asked anyone in the room who had ever called the groom for IT support to raise their hands. Dozens of hands around the room went up, including, obviously, the bride’s. Congratulations, Julie and Jon! It was a pleasure to be with you on your wedding day.

Rachel and Patrick were married at Rock Hill Plantation House a beautiful location with gorgeous views in every direction. They wanted a casual, elegant theme for their July 4th wedding and the plantation house was the perfect spot. The ceremony was followed by a really fun reception. Even the kids had a good time with the nearby animals that served as a mini petting zoo. Their close friend, Sean Peoples, served as the MC and DJ for the evening making sure everyone had a good time on the dance floor.

Maryland Wedding Photography at The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek

Ceremony and Reception Location  : The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek

Wedding date : June 20, 2010

Scott and Brittany were married at The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek on June 20th, which happened to be Father’s Day.  Brittany did all the flowers herself, each table had a different centerpiece which was really fun.  Brittany and Scott also knew the best way to get a bunch of Father’s to attend a wedding on Father’s day was to offer beer at the ceremony, and BBQ for dinner.  The ceremony was performed by a family friend, and included a part that brought Brittany’s daughter in, letting her know that she would always be a part of Scott and Brittany’s family.  Which I thought was a fitting way for Scott to spend his father’s day.  While we were out shooting some fun shots of the newlyweds we all got a reminder that parenting never ends even at a wedding, when in the background of the dip shot i spotted Brittany’s and Scott’s daughter with a couple other kids from the wedding running across the field to go checkout the woods.  But i think having the kids in the background will give them a great reminder of the joys of their new family.  Later at the reception the couple opted for Georgetown Cupcakes instead of a cake, and they were a big hit with all the guests, especially the kids.  I wish all three of them many years of happiness as a new family!

Christie and Greg were married on June 12th, 2010 in Phoenix Maryland.  Christie made her final preparations for the wedding at her parents house, surrounded by her team of bridesmaids, her parents, and the best behaved dog.  The ceremony was held at St John’s of Sweet Air and Greg’s face lit up as soon as he saw Christie being escorted down the isle by her father.  After the ceremony we spent some time doing formals at the church, and then the newlyweds sped of to the reception in a Plymouth.  We then arrived at Hillendale Country Club for the reception.  We spent a little more time out on the golf course taking some photos with Christie and Greg, and the bridal party also joined in for a couple pictures.  Then we went inside so the reception could kick off with dancing from the couple, and then with their parents. Congrats guys, it was a pleasure documenting your wedding.

Glenview Mansion Wedding Photography, Rockville, MD – Emily and William

Ceremony and reception location  : Glenview Mansion, Rockville, MD

Wedding date : June 5, 2010

Emily…or Emi, as her friends call her…and William were married at the stately Glenview Mansion in Rockville on June 5th.  First off, it was wonderful to see how absolutely involved Charlie, Emi’s dad, was with the planning and execution of the entire day.  You could totally see in his eyes from the start how important this day was to him.  Those that know William and Emi well know that they are both very interested in cartoons and fantasy stories of all sorts and in a lot of ways, their wedding day turned into a fairy tale of their very own.  The mansion was beautiful, the weather could not have turned out to be more perfect, and the ceremony in the gardens was every bit the dream that Emi had of her special day.  There were plenty of laughter and tears during the ceremony, but once the reception started, it was nothing short of dance fever!  The dance floor was never empty from the start of the party til the very end.  Congratulations Emi and William and thanks so much for allowing me to be a part of your fair tale day!

Engineers Club Wedding Photography, Baltimore, MD – Alison and Paul

July 9th, 2010

Ceremony Location  : Old Otterbein Methodist Church

Reception location : Engineers Club

Wedding date : May 29, 2010

Photographs by Jennifer

Alison and Paul were married on one of the most beautiful Saturday evenings this spring. With their reception at the Engineers Club in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood, the bride and her girlfriends decided to get ready there. The 105-year-old mansion has one of the prettiest bridal dressing rooms in the area. The windows of the Women’s Auxiliary are just gorgeous and they let in the most perfect light. Alison had one rule while getting ready there — no crying. I’m pretty sure her friends, sister and the mothers all managed to comply, despite a close call when the bride’s mom saw her in her veil for the first time. When everyone was ready, we were off to the Old Otterbein Methodist Church, the most simple and lovely little church, for a ceremony filled with laughter and tears and, at the very end, a surprise blast of party horns from the couple’s guests. After our family photo session, Alison and Paul strolled Mount Vernon Place for some relaxed portraits in the glorious early-evening light. They capped their day with a few emotional toasts, animal-print champagne flutes and a surprise dance choreographed by their friends. What an evening!

The importance of hiring a good professional photographer

July 7th, 2010

Article by Roman Grinev

We know that you have lots of options when it come to wedding photography. At the end of the day, it’s a collection of great images that will remind you of all the joy, spontaneity and excitement of your wedding day.

With digital cameras more readily available to consumers, lots of people have become “photographers,” including family members. Having a good camera is only a small piece of the puzzle and is not a substitute for photographic skill. A skilled photographer will know about composition, lighting and other various elements that go into telling a story through photos and then making the most of those images through strong post-processing and much more.

A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be documented by an experienced photographer. Weddings are unique events that often move quickly. An inexperienced “photographer” will not be able to capture all the moments of your special day without stopping and posing you and your guests. There are no do-overs at a wedding and the moments are best captured as they happen.

Yes, you can find lower-priced photographers, but they may cut corners on equipment and on the processing of your images. Less-expensive studios typically over promise and under deliver. They often show great general studio portfolios and then may send out a less-experienced photographer to your event. We show individual portfolios with the work of each of our photographers and give you the opportunity to select your favorite. You also have the opportunity to meet your photographer ahead of time. Among our six photographers, we each have five to 12 years of experience documenting weddings professionally.

Lower-priced studios also typically shoot photos in the JPEG format and don’t do any work — or post-processing — on the images after the wedding. They take the digital files straight out of the camera and don’t bother with time-consuming but often-necessary tasks like color-correcting, exposure enhancements and black and white conversions. We all shoot in the RAW format, which creates digital files that produce more vibrant colors and may be enlarged to a bigger size. We process each image to color-correct and, when necessary, touch-up the photo. We also give you a mix of color, black & white, sepia and digitally enhanced images.

Some studios pad their packages with albums and extras to overcompensate for the lower quality of their work. While albums are important, they are secondary to a strong collection of beautiful, clean photographs that recount the story of your wedding day. It’s much more important to pick the best photographer rather than the best package. Albums can always be purchased after the wedding, but you can never improve upon a poor collection of images.

Are two photographers better than one? Not necessarily. For the majority of weddings, one good photographer is enough. There are, of course large weddings — those with more than 150 people — that call for two photographers. The same considerations of portfolio and experience that go into selecting the primary photographer should be applied to the second photographer. Some studios send a less experienced second photographer to learn on the job at your wedding. With us, when you book two photographers, you get two experienced photographers. As with the primary shooter, you get to see the work of the second photographer and choose who you’d like to work with. Our second photographers also shoot weddings by themselves.

Unlike most solo photographers, we also have an extensive back-up system in place to assure that an emergency doesn’t ruin your wedding day. Because there are six of us, you can be assured that your wedding will be covered if your chosen photographer becomes severely ill or has an accident.

Because of our outstanding photography and customer service, we have been voted One of the Area’s Best Wedding Photographers by the Washingtonian Magazine. You can also check out our wedding vendor reviews on www.weddingwire.com , which is a great source for reading reviews by recently married couples.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with additional questions or to set up a time to meet and view more of our work.
