Built in 1818, the Decatur home was the first private residence in the White House neighborhood. Although the home didn�t remain a private home for too long as it transformed from a rental, a retirement home, and headquarters for the Army Subsistence Department before it was bequeathed to the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1956.

Today the Decatur House serves as the National Center for White House History at Decatur House but it is also a wonderful location for having a wedding and has often been recognized by the Washingtonian for its wedding accommodations. The Decatur Carriage House features magnificent vaulted ceilings, candlelit tables and luxurious historic surroundings. The parlors come complete with antique pieces that take you back to the regal past of Washington D.C. and the courtyard is surrounded by lavish green gardens that make the perfect backdrop for wedding pictures.
