Both of them expressed great joy when they saw each other for the first time that day. Following their ceremony at The Christ Church in Alexandria we made a stop in old town for some informal portraits of the happy newlyweds. Their reception even had a traditional Chinese dragon dance. The whole day ran extremely smooth thanks to Sasha Nel of RSVP Event Planning and Management

The fall weather was perfect for an outdoor ceremony. Afterwards their family and friends moved inside for an exquisite dinner. Right before sitting down for dinner Rachel and Scott took a moment alone to sit at the bar and relax for a few minutes. After dinner it was time to party and William of mydeejay.com kept the dance floor packed. Its always great to work with Sara Bauleke of Bella Notte. Thanks Sara for keeping the day flowing nice and smoothly.

I had started off the day by meeting up with Catherine and her friends and family getting ready at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Alexandria early in the morning. Her groom David had docked his yacht on the waterfront and stayed there the night before. Their ceremony was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Old Town Alexandria. After the ceremony, we had an abundance of time to freely walk throughout the waterfront / downtown to capture some amazing pictures of the newlyweds, we even stumbled across the Alexandria Fire Department and they posed for a quick photo with them on the streets of Old Town Alexandria. Then we made our way to their reception that was on the Cherry Blossom River Boat and ferried our way down the Potomac. We had great weather and an awesome set of locations to work with, I couldn’t ask for anything more…

Now, just a couple days before their wedding, Amy’s mother had broken her leg, and consequently was in the hospital and couldn’t make it to the wedding. However, that didn’t stop her son from setting up an over the air Skype with live viewing from a laptop, as Amy was determined to have her mother there, one way or another. In August, you’d expect it to be hot outside, especially for an afternoon wedding, not this day, it was perfect! The lighting was excellent, and after the ceremony I had just enough time to get some really nice shots of the playful newlyweds as the sun was going down. Amy had a few surprises for Joe herself, she had a special cake done of a Harley Davidson for her new husband crafted by Georgetown Cupcakes in addition to the their already delicious cupcake station! Even at the reception her mother was able to see and talk to the bride and groom (her live Skype cam was directly behind the couple’s table) not to mention talk to the other relatives and guest as well. At the end of the night, Amy and Joe had arranged to be driven up to the Baltimore hospital as one last surprise, just to see her mom before they left on their honeymoon…
